Introductory Thoughts on Prayer: 

God answers the prayers of the righteous man. This is not to say that man’s actions determine God’s action, but a righteous man will pray for the will of the Father. He will seek not his own, but God and His work. The wicked seeks his own path, but the man standing in God’s favor, prays for the things that favor God. In this we see that it is not in as much that God answers prayers, but that we answer Him; not that He follows us, but we follow Him. Prayer in no way changes the mind of God, it merely opens our minds to the will of God.
